An escaped prisoner is said to be hunting the hero, and the school is guarded by creatures that feed on happiness. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón, this entry changed the look of the series — colder, looser, far less storybook.

Alfonso Cuarón's entry dropped the storybook framing of the first two for handheld cameras, muted colour and loose uniforms. Every film after it followed that direction.
